BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Holy Cross men's basketball team had their most difficult shooting performance of the season on Saturday afternoon against Olivet Nazarene in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. The Saints shot just 16-of-49 (32.7%) from the field on their way to their lowest point total of the season in the 59-42 loss to the Tigers. With the defeat, Olivet Nazarene moves into a half-game lead over the Saints in the CCAC South Division.
The Tigers got off to a fast start on both ends of the floor in Saturday's conference showdown, scoring the first 17 points to open up the large advantage over the Saints. Drew Moore (Dayton, Ohio) final got the Saints on the board with a three-pointer at the 13:04 mark of the half.
Despite the slow start to the game, the Saints would get as close as 10 points in the half. The Tigers would extend their lead to as many as 16 points with 2:08 remaining before the Saints added back-to-back baskets to make it a 12-point game at the break.
The Tigers had nine points off turnovers and eight second-chance points in the first half as Holy Cross made just 8-of-25 (32.0%) shots.
Parker Dominguez (Santa Clarita, Calif.) brought the Saints within 10 points to start the second half, but the Tigers responded with a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 22 points.
Olivet Nazarene would resume control in the second half despite a late run by the Saints which brought their lead down to 15 points with 3:20 to play. Despite the late run, however, the shooting woes for the Saints continued as they were unable to score another point the remainder of the game. The Tigers knocked off the Saints 59-42 to take a half-game lead in the CCAC South Division.
The Saints (17-8, 10-4 CCAC) will travel to Elgin, Ill. on Monday night for a meeting with the Judson Eagles. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 pm EST.
