DeKALB, Ill. – The Holy Cross Lacrosse team continued their 2014 season with a pair of games over the weekend on the campus of Northern Illinois University. Facing off with one of the top teams in the Great Lakes Lacrosse League in Notre Dame, the Saints struggled against the 4-0 Irish and dropped game one of the day 9-0. After missing several opportunities against the Irish, the Saints responded in their second game against Southern Illinois to win 12-6 and go 1-1 on the day.

"Although we missed some opportunities against Notre Dame, I thought our guys did a great job responding against Southern Illinois," head coach Jeff Penney stated. "Despite having three key players missing, the team stepped up and grabbed a big win to cap off the road trip."

Despite missing out on some opportunities on offense, Brendan Kearney (FR/Glen Ellyn, Ill.) finished game one with 10 saves against the first place Fighting Irish.

After falling 9-0 in game one, the offense began to find its rhythm.

Henry Deery-Schmitt (JR/Bainbridge Island, Wash.) continued his incredible start to the 2014 season with a five-goal game. Nick Hernandez (SO/Indianapolis, Ind.) added a season-high four goals while Patrick Tinsley (FR/Menlow Park, Calif.) added his first career hat trick to round out the Saints 12-goal performance.

Brendan Kearney continued to play strong in net, finishing with five saves in the game and allowing just three past him.

"It would have been easy to give up after a tough opening game loss, but our guys responded with a great win in game two," continued Penney. "We are continuing to make positive steps forward and are having a number of players step up to the occasion."

The Saints (3-2) will hit the road once again this weekend for a three-game weekend in Wisconsin. They will open up on Saturday, April 12 with a pair of games against Michigan Tech and St. Norbert (Wis.) before concluding on Sunday against the hosts of Ripon College.
