(South Bend, IN) Sophomore guard J.T. Breveard led the Saints with 19 points and 8 assists, but the men's basketball team could not hold on to a late lead over IU-South Bend in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play Tuesday night.
The Titans dominated early and took a 15 point lead midway through the first half. Holy Cross responded with a 7 - 0 run of their own to pull within 8. Hitting seven 3-pointers on 40% shooting in the first half, IUSB took a 40 - 33 lead into halftime. The Saints shot 41% from the field, but went 2-for-11 from three point range.
The Saints battled hard in the second half, and regained the lead at the 8:50 mark since a 2-0 lead to start to the game. Pushing their lead to as many as 5, Holy Cross was gaining control of the game. However, IUSB came charging back and within a 4 minute span the Titans held a 5 point lead and never looked back. The Saints eventually fell, 85 - 76, for their third straight CCAC loss.
Ben Werner led the Titans with 21 points and 17 rebounds in 35 minutes of action. Taylor Williams chipped in 14 points for the Saints. Brad Kendall and Adam Onderdonk each added 12. This is the second straight game in which 4 players recorded double figures for the Saints.
Holy Cross (2 - 15, 0-3) ends their 2009 schedule and looks forward to the New Year. The Saints will host IU-South Bend on January 9th at the McKenna Arena. Tip-off is at 3pm. BOX SCORE
