(Notre Dame, IN) The Holy Cross men's basketball team welcomed the Fighting Saints of St. Francis (IL) to the McKenna Arena Saturday afternoon for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match-up.
Both teams were looking for their first CCAC win on the year. Holy Cross came into the game at 0-5 in conference play while St. Francis was 0-2. The game saw 8 ties and 11 lead changes throughout. However, it was St. Francis pulling away late in the second half for an 89 - 76 victory.
Trailing by 4 at half, the Saints were able to regain the lead at the 15:06 mark as Brad Kendall (Granger, IN) hit a pair of free-throws. St. Francis countered with two key 3-pointers from Billy Hubley to gain the lead and never look back. The Saints managed to pull within 4 with 4:49 remaining, but St. Francis went on an 8-2 run and then an 11-1 run to put the game out of reach.
Andrew Tullis (Granger, IN) led the Saints with a double-double recording 23 points and 11 rebounds. Justin Breveard (South Bend, IN) led all scorers with 24. Leading St. Francis was Billy Hubley with 21 points on 5 - 7 shooting from 3-point range.
The Saints will be back in action Wednesday, January 27th, against CCAC DII Trinity Christian College. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
