(Notre Dame, IN) In the first poll released on the Holy Cross men's lacrosse team received the #1 spot for the first time in program history.
Members of the Great Lakes Lacrosse League (GLLL), the Saints opened their season last weekend winning four games in convincing fashion. The Saints outscored their opposition 38 - 7. The Saints knocked off reigning league champion University of Wisconsin-red 7 - 3. Last year the Saints fell to the Badgers 6 - 4 in the championship game.
With a power rating of 76.90 the Saints find themselves 4 points ahead of Wisconsin. "We surprised a lot of teams last year with great play," said second year Head Coach Mike Hodge. "The team knows that we have to take one game at a time and not get ahead of ourselves. They have prepared themselves for another great season of lacrosse."
The 27 team league is broken down into four divisions. Currently the Saints play in the South Division alongside Benedictine University, Columbia College, Southern Illinois, Western Illinois, and the University of Chicago.
The Saints have over a month off and will resume play on March 28th, against Columbia College and Northern Illinois University. "It's nice to have a few weeks off to get all of our players healthy," said Coach Hodge. "However, it will be important that we stay sharp and keep working towards our team goals."
