(Notre Dame, Ind.) The Holy Cross athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of Tim Holt as the Head Coach for men's and women's golf. Holt brings a wealth of coaching and professional experience to the Saints golf program.
A graduate of McNeese State University (Lake Charles, La.), Holt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He began coaching as an assistant girls golf coach at Zephyrhills (Fla.) High School from 2000 - 2002. In 2003, Holt became the men's head coach at Saint Leo (Fla.) University. Saint Leo is a NCAA division II school and competes in the Southern States Conference (SSC).
"I was attracted to the program because I coached at the collegiate level while living in Florida and I wanted to get back into it," said Coach Holt. "Holy Cross has the right combination of academics and commitment to athletics that makes this opportunity very exciting for me. My expectations are to see the men's and women's programs develop to become one of the best in the NAIA, while working with the players to make them the best athlete, student and role model that will make Holy Cross proud."
During his time in Florida, Holt was the Director of Golf/ General Manager of Ray Floyd's Whispering Oaks Golf and Country Club. He also spent time at Hidden Creek Golf Club overseeing all tournaments. Currently Holt conducts all golf instruction programs at Juday Creek Golf Club in Granger, Ind.
"Coach Holt brings experience, expertise, and a unique passion to helping student-athletes reach their full potential," said Athletic Director Nathan Walker. "I believe Coach Holt's experience as a PGA professional will help develop the programs into a contender right away."
Holt replaces Ryan Gowen as the head coach. Coach Gowen will stay with the team as an assistant for the 2010 season. The Saints enter their first year as members of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC), and their third in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
