(Pontiac, Mich.) An 0 - 2 start to the season was quickly forgotten as the men's soccer team netted 5 goals against Rochester College Wednesday evening.
The Saints took 32 total shots and 7 corner kicks and rolled to a 5 - 2 victory. Senior Oswaldo Garrido (Elkhart, Ind.) starting the scoring for the Saints in the 13 minute Robert Campos (Elkhart, Ind.) recorded the assist. Zak Drake (Ontario, Canada) added a second goal for the Saints in the final minutes of the first half to give them a 2 goal lead.
Rochester forward Robert Eckrem cut the lead in half in the 55th minute on an unassisted goal. However, the Saints responded with three unanswered goals by Daniel Killen (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Robert Campos (Elkhart, Ind.), and David Alva (Ontario, Canada) to give them a 4 goal cushion. Rochester added a second goal late in the game, but the Warriors fell 5 - 2.
"After two games where we had trouble finding our forwards feet and getting touches in the finishing third we were able to put things together tonight," said Head Coach Dustan Harley. "We were very dangerous up front and combined for 32 shots."
The Saints return to action this Saturday, September 11th, at the Indiana Invaders complex. Holy Cross welcomes Marian University for a 6pm kickoff. Currently 2-2-1 on the year the Knights are coming off a 1 - 0 overtime victory over Georgetown College.
