(Notre Dame, Ind.) The Holy Cross men's soccer reserve team continues to roll in their fall campaign taking games from rivals Bethel College and Andrews University this past week after a 2 - 0 setback against Robert Morris on a neutral field.
Holy Cross - Bethel
The Holy Cross men's reserve team hosted cross-town rival Bethel College last Thursday night and were able to gain their second win against the Pilots this season. The boys were great all evening and worked very hard against a good opponent.
Jamie Genis, TJ Hendzel, Farhod Kurbanov, and Ashley Wormall all had goals in the 4-2 victory. Kurbanov started the scoring off with a fantastic goal. After the Pilots tied the game, TJ Hendzel put the Saints ahead 2 - 1 at the 45 minute mark.
The Pilots came out flying early in the second half and scored a free kick to even the match at 2. Jaime Genis put the Saints up one with a nice pass from Ashley Wormwall in the 77th min.
With 8 minutes left Mathew Huon came on the field and used his minutes wisely causing the Pilots to foul him in the box. Wormall stepped up and scored a penalty shot which sealed the win for the Saints.
Holy Cross - Andrews
The Saints traveled to Andrews University to take on a familiar foe Sunday afternoon in Berrien Springs, Mich.
The Saints received goals from Richie Campos, Ryan Kijurna, and David Bodien. Andrews added a goal, but it was too little too late and the Saints defeated the Cardinals for the second time this year.
The Saints improve to 6 - 3 on the year and recorded a season sweep over both Bethel College and Andrews University. The reserve team will be back in action October 3rd, at the University of Saint Francis (Ind.). The game is scheduled to kick-off at 1pm. The Saints hosted USF on August 26th, at Holy Cross College. The Cougars took that game 3 - 1.
