(Notre Dame, Ind.) Leading by as many as 8 early in the first half, the Saints were unable to hold off the Peregrines of Purdue-Calumet in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match-up Saturday afternoon at the Pfeil Center.
The Peregrines scratched their way back into the game after trailing by 8 midway through the first half and took a one point lead heading into half.
In the second half it was the Saints crawling back into the game after trailing by as many as 9 points. With 7 seconds remaining in the game freshman Jillian DeLucia (Fishers, Ind.) sank a three-pointer to pull the Saints within 2. However, after Calumet's Amanda Gaskin missed a pair of free-throws the Saints were left with 2 seconds and no timeouts as they were unable to get a shot off to end the game. The Saints fell to the Peregrines 65 - 63.
Calumet improved to 6 - 4 on the year and and 1 - 1 in the CCAC. Holy Cross falls to 2 - 11 on the year and 1 - 2 in the CCAC. As a team the Saints shot 36.4% from the field including 8-of-34 from behind the arc.
Calumet's Tierra Turner led all scorers with 21 points and 13 rebounds. The Saints were led by Lindsey Steffen (Nappanee, Ind.) recording her 9th double-double this season with 19 points and 12 rebounds. DeLucia added 12 points and 4 assists for the Saints.
Holy Cross will host cross-town foe Bethel College on Wednesday, December 15th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
