(Notre Dame, Ind.) Despite having four players in double figures the Saints came up short Monday night against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) opponent Purdue Calumet.
Lauren Malinowski (Dearborn Heights, Mich) had a team high 23 points, Jillian DeLucia (Fishers, Ind.) netted15 points, while Senior Tanesha Varnardo (Markham, Ill.) added 11 and Mary Fitzgerald (Livonia, Mich.) had 10 points, but the Saints fell to the Peregrines 98-74.
Midway through the first half the Peregrines held a 25-10 lead and the Saints were unable to come back as Calumet never led the lead slip away.
With 16:09 remaining in the game Senior Jalisa Edwards (Chicago, Ill.) hit a 3-pointer that cut the Peregrine lead to 8. However, Calumet responded with a 10-0 run that extended their lead to 18.
The Peregrines were able to put up 98 points on nearly 51% shooting from the field and outrebounded Holy Cross 39-29.
The Saints shot 46% from the field but committed 17 turnovers compared to the Peregrines 10. Calumet also went 26-of-34 from the free throw line.
The Saints will be back in action 24 hours later on Tuesday night as they travel to Olivet Nazarene (CCAC DI). This is the first and only meeting between the two schools this year. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30pm (est).
