(Elgin, Ill.) The men's baseball team traveled to Judson University Tuesday evening to take on the Eagles in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) double header match-up.
In game one it was the Saints jumping out to a one run lead in the top of the first after Ryan Trosko walked and stole second. Dan Wawrzusin singled to left and a miscue by the Judson right fielder allowed Trosko to score the game's first run. Unfortunately for the Saints they were unable to capitalize on any more runs and left 3 men on base.
In the home half of the first Judson tallied 6 runs on 3 hits including the first of three home runs on the day from Nate Rohl. Rohl homered in the second inning as well to give the Eagles a 7-1 advantage.
The Saints added another run in the 5th inning when Trace Myers scored after leading off the inning with a single to right field. However, the Saints dropped game one 9-2. Ben Bourney pitched 5.2 innings giving up 9 runs 5 of which were earned.
In game 2 the Saints once again took the lead, but were unable to hold Judson. Both Myers and Hallahan recorded back-to-back singles and scored for the Saints in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third Rohl nailed his third home run of the day tying the game at 2.
In the Judson 4th, the Eagles put up 6 runs in an inning for the second time on the day and eventually held on for a 10-5 two game sweep of the Saints. Holy Cross added 2 runs in the 5th and 1 run in the sixth, but it was not enough as they fall to 1-26 on the year.
In the two games the Saints left 18 men on base. Holy Cross will return to action this Friday, April 15th, when they host CCAC opponent Olivet Nazarene University in a 9-inning game at Thomas Memorial Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
