Men Fall To Andrews University
Men's Basketball - Sat, Nov. 19, 2011
(Berrien Springs, Michigan) After falling to Andrews University November 8th at home 68-43, the Saints were looking for revenge Saturday night as the Saints took on the Cardinals.
The Saints made the half-hour trip northward to Andrews' Rhode Island-sized gymnasium to try and take care of business and earn a season-split with the Cardinals of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
It was the home team that jumped out of the gate early, draining 3-point baskets from all over the floor, and putting heavy pressure on the Holy Cross backcourt. The Cardinals also put triple teams on senior Taylor Williams (South Bend, Indiana), which led to a scarce amount of points in the paint for the Saints.
Williams, Yama Kader (Mission Viejo, California), and Dane Okuda (Huntington Beach, California) led the Saints in scoring in the first half, with five, four, and four points, respectively. The Cardinals kept the momentum on their side throughout the opening period, and took a 34-20 lead into halftime.
The Cardinals controlled the game with their impressive team speed, which beat the Saints down the floor and stifled the Holy Cross offense. Andrews had four players in double figures, as they scored 54 of Andrews' 70 points.
The Saints outscored the Cardinals in the second half, but it would not make a difference, as the Cardinals kept pouring in the buckets during the second half en route to a 70-57 victory over the Saints.
The Saints were led by Kader's 14 points, Williams' 9, and Adam Onderdonk's (South Bend, Indiana) 8. The Saints out-rebounded the Cardinals 26-24, but the rebounds were limited as Andrews shot 58% from the floor for the game.
The Saints head to St. Xavier University for their next game on November 22nd at 7:00 PM to face the #24 Musketeers.
