(Jacksonville, IL)  The Holy Cross Men's Baseball Team took on Ashford University this weekend in their first four game series of the season.
Ashford took the first three games of the series, but Holy Cross was able to rebound Sunday afternoon to beat Ashford 10-7 to avoid the four game sweep.
The Saints were outscored 46-18 over the weekend series.  Junior leadoff hitter Daniel Wawrzusin (Potomac, Maryland) paced the Saints over the weekend going 7 for16 from behind the plate while also recording 4 runs, and 2 runs batted in over the four game series.
Freshman Michael Pizzuto (Sarasota, FL) also contributed over the weekend going 5 for 11 behind the plate with 6 runs and 4 runs batted in for the Saints.
In the win on Sunday afternoon sophomore Jackson Hallahan (Silver Lake, Minnesota) pitched seven strong innings giving up eleven hits, six earned runs, and only one walk to five strikeouts.
The Saints are now 1-3 on the season.  Their next game is at home March sixth as they debut at the South Bend Silverhawk's Coveleski Stadium to play crosstown rival Bethel College.  It is a double header with the Pilots, and the first game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
