Mount Vernon, OHIO -- The Holy Cross Saints wrapped up their appearance in the First-Knox Cougar Invitational with a second round 1-0 victory over the Tigers of Georgetown (Ky.) College. With the victory, the Saints improve to 2-1 on the season.
"Today was a much better result for our guys," stated coach Gallo. "You could tell from the start that they were determined to put yesterday's loss in the past. We came out with great energy and got the victory."
The Saints took control offensively from the very beginning and really put the pressure on the Tigers.
After Berruezo's goal, the Saints continued to garner opportunities offensively. They finished the half with a 7-3 shot advantage and a 4-1 corner kicks advantage.
The Saints continued to be the aggressors in the second half, outshooting the Tigers 12-5 in total shots.
Freshman goalkeeper Brian Aldrich (Portage, Mich.) fared well in his first career start. Aldrich finished the game with one save and his first a career shutout.
"I really liked the intensity we played with for all 90 minutes," continued coach Gallo. "We did a great job executing our set plays and it helped contribute our goal.
"We obviously still have work to do, but we will enjoy this one for 24 hours and then get back to work in preparation for Huntington (Ind.) next week."
The Saints (2-1) will close out their current three-game road trip on Thursday, September 12th with a matchup at Huntington University.
