SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Holy Cross Saints hockey team wrapped up a home series with ACHA North Division-foe Indiana University over the weekend with their first sweep since mid-December. Senior Drew Brodbeck (A) (Stillwater, Minn.) netted a season-high four goals in Friday night's opener as the Saints dominated from start to finish to knock off the Hoosiers 10-1. The Saints remained impressive in Saturday's finale as five different players scored a goal in the 6-3 win to pick up their first sweep in 2014 and achieve 20 wins for the second time in program history.

Senior goaltender Brad Hajec (Dearborn, Mich.) did his job of keeping the puck out of the net as he stopped 25-of-26 shots faced in Friday's series opener while the Saints offense was firing on all cylinders. Drew Brodbeck (A) led the charge for the Saints with a season-high five points including a season-best four goals. Jake Radde (Granger, Ind.) added his second multi-goal game of the year finishing with two goals. B.J. Kolcz (A) (Marysville, Mich.) added one goal and four assists to finish with a game-high five points.

Sean Root (Livonia, Mich.), Daniel Vaughan (Littleton, Colo.) and Nick Wink (Western Springs, Ill.) each added a goal to round it out for the Saints as they knocked off the Hoosiers 10-1.

Five players contributed goals in Saturday's series finale as the Saints knocked off Indiana 6-3 for their first sweep since Central Michigan (Dec. 13 – Dec. 14).

Michael Pilcher (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded a season-high three points to lead the Saints. Drew Brodbeck (A) continued his strong weekend with a pair of goals while B.J. Kolcz (A) and Tommy Lyons (C) (Valparaiso, Ind.) each dished out two assists.

Jake Radde, Keaton Deranek (Lakeville, Ind.) and Will Bauers (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) each added a goal in the game as the Saints finished off the series sweep with a 6-3 victory.

Devin Nyers (Mishawaka, Ind.) rounded out the solid weekend of goaltender play for the Saints stopping 31-of-34 shots faced.

Other Notables

  • With the sweep over Indiana, the 2013-2014 Saints hockey team became the second team in program history to achieve 20 wins.
  • B.J. Kolcz (A) (67 points) and Drew Brodbeck (A) (64 points) are the first two Saints hockey players to record 60 or more points in a single season.
  • Tommy Lyons (C) set a new career-high with points (44) after his two assists on Saturday.

Next Up

The Saints (20-10) hit the road for the final time during the 2013-2014 season this weekend as they're set to take on the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech. Game one will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday with the series wrapping up at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
