Women's Soccer - Fri, Aug. 28, 2009
Head Coach Carlos Reynolds begins his first year with the women's soccer program. 2009 marks the first year for the Saints as a varsity program. Members of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) the Saints will be tested in every game. As camp broke and the semester began Coach Reynolds had some thoughts to share about the progress of the program:

Starting a new season is always a challenge especially when you are moving from a club sport to varsity. This year we brought our players to campus two weeks before classes started. The team also worked on a summer conditioning program to prepare for the season.

In the two weeks we worked: 5 days with 3 practices a day, and 5 days with 2 practices a day. My main goal for this was to make sure that we were physically strong to compete.

Another aspect of bringing them earlier, was to work on our system of playing and team unity. I wanted them to know each other and the campus where they will be conducting their studies. This is important for all our student athletes especially our 5 incoming freshman, and 2 very strong transfers. The upper class did an excellent job helping the new students getting familiar with the campus. They stayed together, had meals together and some free time to relax and play games of tennis table in the student union.

By the second week of our camp I was able to see concrete changes and improvements, and looking back to our winter training this is a completely different team. I know that the road will not be easy, but we are ready and have the will to move forward. I think the players are eager to start playing after all this hard work. We were also fortunate enough to get quality walk - on players, who will definitively help the team.

Finally, I would like to invite everybody from the community to come and support the women's soccer team at Holy Cross. We still have a lot to do, but our main project besides the team, is to build a soccer complex that could be the host of the beautiful game in our community.

The Saints open up their 2009 schedule against the University of Sioux Falls on August 29th. Perhaps the most intriguing matchup comes on September 1st as the Saints take on the Belles of St. Mary's.
