(La Crosse, WI) Plagued with injuries, the women's soccer team struggled in their season opener. The Saints traveled to Viterbo University for two games to begin the 2009 season.
The Cougars of Sioux Falls took full advantage of an injury riddled Holy Cross roster. Sioux Falls poured on 32 shots, as goalkeeper Ashleigh Lemp faced 25. The Cougars netted 3 in the first half. Tasia Murray, Tiffany Adams, and Allison Gorder accounted for the goals.
In the end, Sioux Falls proved to be too much for the young Saints. The Cougars added 5 goals in the second half. Lemp ended up with 17 saves in 90 minutes of action.
After a tough match-up on Saturday, the Saints were slated to take on the V-Hawks of Viterbo University on Sunday. Due to injuries the Holy Cross was forced to forfeit the game after the first half. The V-Hawks held a 2-0 advantage, but the stats will not count due to the forfeit.
The Saints will play at St. Mary's College on Tuesday. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
