(La Crosse, WI) The men's soccer team traveled to Viterbo University (La Crosse, WI) over the weekend to play University of Sioux Falls and Viterbo University in non-conference action. The Saints continued to struggle on offense only scoring one goal in 180 minutes of action.
The lone goal for the Saints came in the third minute as Joe Esch (South Bend, IN) beat Cougars goalkeeper Patrick Purdy. Robert Campos (Elkhart, IN) recorded the assist on the play. Cody Lutes of USF evened the game less than 5 minutes later, and in the 13 minute Ryan Trupe gave the Cougars a 2 - 1 lead. Sioux Falls never looked back as Barry Owen gave USF a 3 - 1 advantage in the 58th minute. The Saints were outshot 14 - 8, and trailed in corner kicks 6 - 2.
On Sunday the Saints took on the V- Hawks of Viterbo University. This was the second meeting all time between the two schools. Last year the Saints edged Viterbo 2 - 1 in overtime. However, Viterbo proved to be too much for the Saints on Sunday afternoon. Tony Madigan and Jake Wenzel each scored in the V - Hawks victory. James Lockley added a penalty kick goal in the 71st minute when the Saints were called for a handball inside their own box. The Saints were outshot 12 - 5, and trailed in conerkicks 8 - 1.
The Saints fall to 0 - 3 on the year and continue their travels to Andrews University on September 3rd. The Saints defeated Andrews twice in 2008 outscoring the Cardinals 9 - 4.
