The Saints extended their winning streak to three games over the weekend

RIPON, Wis. – The Holy Cross Saints lacrosse team continued grabbed a pair of victories over the weekend as participants in the Ripon College tournament. After knocking off Michigan Tech by a final of 7-4, the Saints concluded the tournament with a dominant 11-1 win over Ripon (Wis.) to extend their winning streak to three games. Henry Deery-Schmitt (JR/Bainbridge Island, Wash.) added six goals over the weekend to lead the Saints.

"It was another productive weekend for our guys," second year head coach Jeff Penney said. "They focused on the task at hand and came away with two wins."

In game one against Michigan Tech, the Saints put forth a hard-fought effort on their way to the 7-4 victory.

Henry Deery-Schmitt, Shawn Tallet (SR/Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Phil Abate (SO/Hindsdale, Ill.) each scored a pair of goals to lead the Saints. Rounding out their seven-goal performance, Kiefer Szumlas (SR/Chicago, Ill.) scored the final goal for the Saints as they grabbed the 7-4 victory.

Deery-Schmitt and Nick Hernandez (SO/Indianapolis, Ind.) each added a pair of assists in game one while Phil Abate added one.

Brendan Kearney (FR/Glen Ellyn, Ill.) finished the game with 11 saves in goal.

In their weekend finale against the tournament-hosts from Ripon College, the Saints were dominant from start to finish. Henry Deery-Schmitt continued his incredible start to the 2014 season with four goals in the game.

Phil Abate added two goals and two assists while Nick Hernandez added a pair of goals himself. Shawn Tallet finished with a goal and an assist while Kiefer Szumlas and Mitch Sulfaro (FR/Monroe, Mich.) each added goals. Rounding out the Saints with points, senior Terry Riggs (SR/South Bend, Ind.) added an assist in the 11-1 victory.

Brendan Kearney was once again solid in goal, finishing with five saves on the six shots on net.

"The guys came in with a goal this weekend to leave with no results other than wins and accomplished it," continued Penney. "We now need to turn our focus to this weekend where we have two big games against the MSU Reserves and Northwestern University."

With the weekend sweep, the Saints have extended their win streak to three games.

The Saints (5-2) will resume action on Saturday, April 19 with a pair of home games to be held at the Kroc Center in South Bend, Ind. Game one will take place at noon EST against the MSU Reserves with game two to follow at approximately 2:30 pm against Northwestern University.
