Donaldson, IN - The Saint's men soccer team ramped up the preseason last night with a 5-0 victory over the Ancilla College Chargers. This exhibition game was the first of two scheduled for the Saints during preseason, before they open the regular season against Huntington College at home on August 27 at 4:00 PM.

The game started slow with both sides feeling each other out and trying to mesh the new players with the returners. The Saints have brought in 12 new players this year to add to their 12 returners. The first half ended 0-0 with not many chances created. But Coach Gallo made some tactical changes at half and the Saints had an offensive explosion in the second half with 5 goals and lots of chances created.

Junior college transfer, Lukman Ahmed-Shaibu, came on in the 20th minute and wreaked havoc on the Chargers back line scoring a hat trick in the second half. "My first two goals were created from our team's execution. The team definitely deserves the credit for the hat trick," said Lukman, "The team is really starting to come together and I feel at home here in only a couple weeks with the guys, but we must continue to improve to achieve our team goals this year."

Also adding to the goal tally was Alfredo Molestina and Steven Smith with second half strikes. Not to be outdone the Saints defense was solid all night conceding 0 goals and Carlos Garcia had a fantastic save on an Ancilla penalty kick to preserve the clean sheet for the Saints. "We dressed eighteen guys tonight and all eighteen got time on the field. It's great to be able to see all your pieces on the field during preseason, so you can understand the depth and strengths of your team before the season even begins," stated Coach Gallo. "Overall it was a great performance to build on going forward in this preseason."
