(South Bend, IN) The Holy Cross women's soccer team earned their first victory of the season over Andrews University Monday evening.

Saints forward Jessica Heston (Plymouth, IN) tallied the lone goal of the game in the 8th minute. Heston broke free from the Cardinal defense and blasted a shot past Andrews' goalkeeper Chelsea Powell. The Cardinals did not give up, and were able to put pressure on the Saints defense.

"This was our first win and the team really worked for it," said Head Coach Carlos Reynolds. "Jessica Heston finished a great opportunity; it was a great hard and low shot, impossible to stop."

In the 26th minute a hand ball was called inside the Saints 18 yard box giving Andrews a penalty kick. After recording a season high 27 saves on Saturday, Ashleigh Lemp (Osceola, IN) once again came up with a big save over Andrews forward Ariana Cunningham.

"Overall it was a great win especially when they worked so hard for it," said Reynolds. "We still have more work to do, but this win was a team effort. We scored early in the game and kept it until the end".

Holy Cross outshot Andrews 12 - 10 and led in corner kicks 5 - 4. Lemp recorded her second shutout of the season, and saved 4 in the victory. The Saints open up their conference schedule at the University of St. Francis (IL) on Wednesday. The USF game will mark the first ever conference competition in Holy Cross athletic history.
