(Sault Ste. Marie, MI) The Holy Cross hockey team opened the 2009-10 season with a weekend trip to Lake Superior State University. The Saints played Friday and Saturday night against the Lakers.
After a long bus ride the Saints were able to play their first game since last November. It didn't take long for the first goal as forward Jamie O'Conner (Carmel, IN) recorded the first goal of the season 15 seconds into the game. However, the lead did not last long as Kyle Waisanen of Lake Superior evened the game with 13:16 left in the first. The Lakers took the lead on a power play goal by Dan Stanisz at the 11:39 mark.

It was all Lakers over the next two periods. The Lakers scored 8 times over the final 40 minutes. O'Conner tallied a second goal for the Saints with 4:02 left in the second period. Andrew Ebright (Ypsilanti, MI) had 37 saves on the night.

The Lakers kept the pressure on in game two as they blanked the Saints for a 7-0 victory on Saturday night. Despite 20 shots on goal the Saints could not convert any goals. Ebright put together another great night in goal with 35 saves.
The Saints open up the home part of their schedule this Friday at the Ice Box in South Bend. The Saints host the University of Michigan Flint at 7:30pm. They will also play at 1:15pm on Saturday afternoon.
