Costly Mistakes Hurt Saints
Men's Soccer - Thu, Oct. 1, 2009
(Chicago, IL) The Saints traveled to St. Xavier Wednesday evening for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) matchup.
The Saints played well, but ultimately the Cougars prevailed with a 3-0 victory. Ben Johnson gave the Cougars a 1-0 halftime lead on a penalty kick in the 27th minute. Adrian Guzman and Al Palar added goals in the 69th and 79th minute. The Saints were outshot 23-8 and trailed in corner kicks 6-4. "We played a solid first half", said Head Coach Dustan Harley. "A couple of big mistakes in the second half cost us goals and ultimately the game."
St. Xavier has been ranked as high as number 13 in recent NAIA polls. "We competed against a top notch program for most the game, but we need to eliminate the big mistakes to keep us in the game."
The Saints will be back in action Saturday afternoon as part of a double-header with the women's soccer team. The women kick off at 2pm and the men follow at 4pm. The Saints will be hosting Calumet College of St. Joseph in CCAC action.
