Men's Basketball - Wed, Nov. 4, 2009
(Notre Dame, IN) In an early season Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) game the men's basketball team welcomed St. Xavier to the McKenna Arena Tuesday evening. The Saints were coming off a disappointing loss to Concordia University on Friday night.
Looking to start off with a win in the CCAC, the Saints played evenly with the Cougars during the first half. Both teams exchanged baskets early on, but the Cougars took an 8 point lead midway through the first after going on an 8-0 run. The Saints quickly answered the run to keep the game manageable at half. The Saints trailed 46 - 40. Holy Cross shot 47% in the half, but St. Xavier was able to get 17 points from their bench to give them a 6 point lead.

St. Xavier began the second half with an 8 - 2 run to extend their lead to 10. However, Holy Cross did not go down easily. The Saints answered with a 7 - 0 run of their own to cut the lead to 3. After a quick timeout the Cougars came out firing in the final 10 minutes of the game. St. Xavier pulled out a 94 - 74 victory. Elliott Jones Jr. led the Saints with 22 points on 7 - 20 shooting. Julian Scott of St. Xavier led all scorers with 31.

"The team can take a lot of positives from this game," said Head Coach Steve Baumgartner. "We showed that we can play with the top teams in our conference. We just need to finish down the stretch."
The Saints will be back in action this weekend to play in the Goshen College tournament on November 6th, and 7th.
