Saints Fall Short at Taylor

(Upland, IN) Trailing by 14 points in the first half, the Saints battled back in the second half against a tough Taylor University basketball team.
The Saints had an early 1 point lead after a 3- point basket by Elliott Jones Jr. (Hazel Crest, IL) with 17 minutes remaining in the first half. However, the Trojans went on a 12 - 0 run midway through the first, and led by as many as 20 in the half. The Trojans took a 42 - 28 lead into halftime.
The Saints made an early 9-0 run in the second half to keep the game manageable. The Saints cut the Trojan lead to 8 when Zac Cook (South Bend, IN) hit a three pointer with 9:28 remaining in the game. Taylor answered back with two quick free-throws and a 3- point basket of their own to extend their lead to 13. The Saints battled hard but fell short 87 - 68.
Elliott Jones Jr. led the Saints with 19 points on 7 - 13 shooting in 40 minutes of action. J.T. Breveard (South Bend, IN) added 15 points and 5 assists. Casey Coons of Taylor led all scorers with 27 points.
The Saints will be back in action this weekend at the Bethel College Classic. The Saints will play Friday against Marian College at 6pm in the Weikamp Center. There are a select number of tickets available at no charge. Tickets will be available in the Pfeil Center starting Thursday at noon.
