(Notre Dame, IN)Looking for their first conference win, the women's basketball team struggled against cross town rival IU - South Bend. The Saints squared off against the Titans at the McKenna Arena.
Early in the game, the Titans went on 7-0 run, but the Saints quickly tied the score at 10 with 13:58 left in the half. At the end of the half the Saints trailed by 10. The Titans buckled down on defense during the second half holding the Saints to 18% from the three-point line. The Saints found it difficult to get back into the game. In the end, the Titans defeated the Saints 72-47. The Saints were led by Lindsey Swaim (Elkhart, IN) with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Baysia Cox (Niles, MI) added 10 points and 6 rebounds. Katie Hacker of IUSB led all scorers with 15 points.
"We played hard; we're a young team that just couldn't overcome mistakes," stated Head Coach Matt Hunsberger. "IUSB and their coaching staff did a good job today. We just got to keep continuing everyday with the attitude of getting better. IUSB is a well coached team that doesn't make many mistakes. We played some discipline basketball but in the end we couldn't overcome our youth. I did definitely see some improvements today, even though the score didn't show it."
The women's basketball team will be back in action at 6 pm on Tuesday, November 17th,at the McKenna Arena. Come out and support your Saints!
