(Mishawaka, IN) The men's basketball team was back in action less than 24 hours after a thrilling victory over Marian University Friday evening. The Saints played tournament host and NAIA division II #3 Bethel College.
Last year the Pilots cruised to a 120-57 win over the Saints. This year the Pilots would get everything they could handle from a scrappy Saints team. Early in the first half the Pilots took an 11 point lead, but the Saints managed to climb back in the game and pull within 1 point at the 8:52 mark. Shooting only 33% in the half the Saints relied on Solid defense and second chance points to keep the game close. The Saints trailed 37-32 at half.
After trading a couple of baskets early in the second the Saints went on a 10-1 run to take a 3 point advantage with 16:31 to play. Transfer J.T. Breveard (South Bend, IN) led the charge with 8 points in less then two minutes. However, the Pilots fired back going on a 16-2 run midway through the second half. The Saints could not answer and the Pilots took the game with a 74-61 victory.
The Saints were led by Breveard with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. His two day performance earned him a spot on the all - tournament team. Mark Wilkins chipped in 9 points. Ryne Lightfoot of Bethel led all scorers with 31.
The Saints return home on Tuesday to take on the Foresters of Huntington University. Tip-off is scheduled for 8pm. The Foresters are currently 4-0 on the season.
