Notre Dame, Ind. - The Holy Cross Saints defeated the Purdue-North Central Panthers 66 - 61 Saturday in a big Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference game. With the win, the Saints playoff hopes stay alive. The Saints improve to 13-13 overall, and 7-10 in conference play.
Freshman Ryan Lutz led the way for the Saints with 17 points and 4 rebounds. Lutz fired in a team-high 3 three pointers for the home team.
Madison McCaffrey added 14 points and 3 assists, going 5-9 from the field, while Freshman Bryce Crosen added another double-double for the Saints. Crosen finished with 11 points 10 rebounds, three of those rebounds being offensive. Crosen has averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds over the past 6 games for Holy Cross. Nate Miller dished out a team-high 4 assists, while chipping in with 5 points.
The Saints shot a blistering 60% (17/28) from the field in the first half, and finished the game 24/15 for 47%. The Saints connected on six triples on the afternoon, shooting 47% for the game. The Saints were able to put behind previous free throw woes, to go 12-16 from the line against PNC.
The Saints (13-13) are back in action on Wednesday against Trinity Christian at 7:30pm.
