(Notre Dame, IN) The Saints put forth a dominating performance Sunday afternoon in the McKenna Arena ending their 6 game slide.
Shooting nearly 44% from the field the Saints took a commanding lead in the first half and never let up. The Saints used a 16 - 0 run starting at the 8 minute mark in the half to build a 17 point lead on the visiting Cardinals.
Extending their lead to as many as 37 in the second half the game was never in doubt. Holy Cross used 44 points in the paint and outrebounded Andrews 46 - 37 to win convincingly 79 - 51. Sophomore Elliott Jones Jr. led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down a team high 7 rebounds. J.T. Breveard chipped in 18 points in 31 minutes of action.
"It took us awhile to get started on the defensive side, but once we switched to a 2 - 3 zone we really established our defensive presence," said Head Coach Steve Baumgartner. "That helped ignited our offense as we scored over 20 points in a 7 minute stretch to end the half. After their dominance over us the past couple of years it was nice to get a good win like that on our home court."
The Saints welcome cross - town foe No. 2 Bethel College (NAIA DII) to the McKenna Arena Tuesday, December 8th. Tip - off is scheduled for 7:00pm. This game is a blackout. All fans are asked to wear their black HCC gear.
