South Bend, Ind. - The Holy Cross women's golf team battled the weather for two rounds of play at the Battle at Blackthorn this weekend, but after faltering in the first round the Saints could not improve their positioning on the second day. A first round 352 put them just behind conference foes Olivet Nazarene and St. Francis (Ill.). The Saints recorded a two round total of 697, which placed them 8th out of 11 teams.
The Saints were once again led by freshman phenom Natalia Campbell who used an impressive second round score of 76, in the rain, building off an 82 on the first to finish in 5th place with a 158 overall score. Campbell has not finished outside the top 10 individually all fall season. Kylie Day finished tied for 30th place after recording a first round 90, followed by an 84 in today's final round.
Maisie Nugent was only two strokes behind Day, carding rounds of 86 and 90, to finish in 33rd place. Jenna Vandenberg and Kasey Shaffer rounded out the Saints five women lineup, finishing in 41st and 50th places, respectively.
The Saints take the short trip to Plymouth, Indiana to Swan lake for a two round event beginning next Friday, October 7th.
