Notre Dame, Ind. - The Holy Cross women's basketball team dropped their final game before Christmas break Saturday afternoon. The Saints, missing two starters, fell to the St. Ambrose University Bees 71-62. With the loss, the Saints fall to 4-10 on the season and 3-4 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Bees picked up their first conference win of the season and improve to 3-9 overall.
The Saints came out flat, allowing the visiting Bees to go up 17-4 to start the contest. The Saints battled back to trail 20-14 at the end of the first quarter. Finding their stride in the second stanza, The Saints only trailed by 4, 36-32, heading into halftime. Tagin Schultheis led the Saints with 12 points in the first two periods. Kaelyn Barlow added a team-high 6 rebounds and 4 points.
Coming out of halftime, the Saints let the Bees get going quickly off turnovers, building a 10 points lead five minutes into the half. Tagin Schultheis and Keysha Streater led the charge to give the Saints a 53-51 lead with 1:42 remaining in the third period. After the Bees tied the game up with a contested jumpshot, Alex Forster knocked in a shot from Streater's pass to give the Saints a 55-53 lead heading into the final period. Unfortunately for the Saints, the Bees came out on fire and the home team went cold to start the 4th quarter. The Bees built a 10 point lead with 5:37 remaining in the game. Holy Cross was never able to get the game back within seven points and when the final horn went off, the Saints fell 71-62.
Tagin Schultheis led the home team with 22 points on 9/15 shooting from the field and added 3 assists. Keysha Streater provided a great all-around performance scoring 13 points, grabbing a team-high 8 rebounds, and dished out 3 assists. Alex Forster and Kaelyn Barlow added 9 and 8 points, respectively.
The Saints (4-10, 3-4) will have a thirteen day break before returning to action on December the 30th when they travel to Taylor University to take on the Trojans.
