Notre Dame, Ind. - The Holy Cross women's basketball team battled the #1 University of St. Francis Fighting Saints Wednesday evening. One of the nation's two unbeaten teams was too much for the home team as they fell 79-53. With the loss, the Saints drop to 8-17 and 6-10 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The top-ranked Fighting Saints improve to 23-0 and 16-0 in conference action.
The Saints battled back and forth with the visiting Fighting Saints, but the size and athleticism of the unbeaten squad was too much to overcome. Holy Cross started slow and trailed after one quarter 18-5, but battled back to only trail 36-21 at the half. The women's basketball team played the nation's top team evenly in the third period as both teams scored 22 points in the stanza. Keysha Streater and Tagin Schultheis led the charge in the third period. In the final quarter, the Fighting Saints pulled away by attacking and finishing at the rim.
Keysha Streater led the Saints with 18 points and 6 rebounds in the contest. Junior Tagin Schultheis scored 14 points on 5-9 shooting, while Eryn Leek scored 6. Jessica Norris led the team with 3 assists, while also pulling down 4 rebounds.
The Saints (8-17, 6-10) travel to Governors State on Saturday to take on the Jaguars in a pivotal matchup for conference tournament standings.
