Notre Dame, Ind. - The Holy Cross men's basketball team has made the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament as made official by league offices Sunday evening. The Saints will take on #8 and top seed Robert Morris University Tuesday evening at 8:00pm. The men's basketball team was one of eight teams to make the conference tournament in the NAIA's largest conference of 15 teams. Holy Cross posted a 14-16 regular season overall record and a conference record of 10-11.
The Saints and Eagles played earlier this year on January 7th when Robert Morris pulled out a 89-87 victory in overtime after the Saints rallied back from a 22-2 deficit to start the game. Holy Cross has been led by Ryan Lutz this year who is averaging a team-best 17.2 points per game, while shooting 41.4% from behind the arc. 6'3" center Ja'Mare Washington has dominated the paint scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds per game. Washington ranks second nationally pulling down 3.96 offensive rebounds per game. The undersized big man also ranks top ten nationally in field goal percentage (4th), total rebounds (7th), and rebounds per game (9th). O'Brien Hobbs is the only other Saints to average double-figures for the season scoring 12.9 points per contest. Junior transfer Travon Brackett has performed well in CCAC play averaging 11.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3 assists per game.
