Notre Dame, Ind. - After narrowly missing the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament this past fall the Holy Cross men's soccer team has started the Spring season on a mission. The Saints took home the championship at the College Midwest Futsal Tournament hosted at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in South Bend. The tournament featured a highly talented mix of NCAA DI, DII, NJCAA and NAIA programs. This was just the start head coach Omar Gallo was looking for out of his group of returners.
"The guys have been working very hard since November and their hard work is starting to pay off. It was a great experience for them to win the Midwest Futsal College tournament, which included some quality college programs at all levels," said Coach Gallo. "Sometimes a negative situation, such as not making the conference tournament, can lead to the most positive results. I believe the guys realized the importance of setting a standard after our fall season, which excites me for the 2017 season."
Not only were the Saints rewarded on the field, but it was recently announced that the men's soccer program was given the prestigious TopSoccer Program of the Year award for their excellent work with the TopSoccer organization. The team will be honored Saturday in Indianapolis with a release on this honor to be published after the awards ceremony.
Spring Season Outlook
The Saints will face a challenging schedule this spring and will look to make strides toward a successful 2017 season. Below is a list of all matches the men's soccer team will be competing in.

This is what Coach Gallo had to say about these tough matches - "We were able to schedule some quality opponents this Spring, which will prepare us for the 2017/2018 season. These games will provide us with some great opportunities to see some players who may have not played that much in the fall. We will be able to evaluate ourselves as individuals and as a team against them. We're also looking at tweaking a few things for next season and this will be a perfect opportunity to try them."
