(Goshen, IN) The Saints were looking to avenge a 76 - 53 loss earlier this season as they traveled to Goshen College Thursday night for the first time. The two teams met on Nov. 21st, at the Judson University tournament.
The Saints came out strong in the first half taking an early 7 - 2 lead over the Maple Leafs. However, Goshen came right back nailing two 3-pointers to take a 1 point lead. Both teams battled for control, but it was the Maple Leafs edging the Saints 29 - 27 at half.
Goshen went on several runs early in the second half including an 8 - 0 run that gave the Leafs their largest lead on the night at 13. The Saints did not go down quietly playing tough defense and scrapping their way back in the game. Junior guard Jalisa Edwards hit a 3-pointer with 1:34 remaining to pull the Saints within 3. The Saints could not get another basket to fall, and Goshen edged the Saints 61 - 57.
Jalisa Edwards led all scorers with 19, Tanesha Vanardo and Alandrea Nailon added 11 for the Saints. Baysia Cox pulled down 10 rebounds, and recorded 2 blocks. Goshen was led by Cassie Greives with 16 points.
The Saints will be back in action on December 29th, and 30th, to play in the Marian College Tournament.
