Notre Dame, IN. Lewis Tomlinson was awarded the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Tomlinson, a freshman goalkeeper, played in 45 minutes of a 1-0 victory against the University of Michigan-Dearborn last Tuesday. He followed that up with another 1-0 victory in 90 minutes in goal versus Bethel College. In each game, Tomlinson recorded one save.
"Lewis has been stellar between the pipes for us as a freshman. Each training session he continues to improve on the simple techniques of the GK position, which is starting to go a long way," said Coach Gallo. "He's had to adapt to a few different techniques but thanks to our goalkeeper coach Steve Smith and our other goal keepers Noah and Blake; he's really starting to catch on. Even though his name is being recognized, this is something that should be appreciated by the entire team, especially the back line. The back four have been very solid early in the season, which has made Lewis' transition to the college game much smoother. Moving forward we are looking to build off the success we are having early on into the season."
The Saints are 4-1 on the season. They travel to the Lawrence Tech University Tournament this weekend, where they will face Huntington University.
