Notre Dame, IN. On a cool, breezy fall day, the Holy Cross women's soccer had their home opener versus Lincoln Christian University. The Saints scored first and were on the offensive attack for the rest of the match, beating the Lions by a score of 10-1. With the win, women's soccer improves to 2-2.
In the first half, the ball was primarily on the Saints offensive side of the field. Brook Strickland was able to find the net from a kick-ahead assist from Marijka Lynch-Pastoor at the nine-minute mark. That goal fueled the offense, and in the 15-minute mark Brianna Gonzalez was able to float the ball over the goalie's head from a beautiful assist from Mary Gregory.
Late in the first half, Marijka Lynch-Pastoor was on a tear, scoring four goals in the 17, 32, 34, 44 minute marks. Freshman Gabriella Diez also added a score in the 39 minute off a nice cross from Catherine Swick. Heading into halftime, the Saints were up 7-1.
Lynch-Pastoor followed up her first half high-scoring performance, by finding the net in the 62 minute off a Brianna Gonzalez assist. Freshman midfielder Rylee Horn ended the match strong, scoring in the 63 and 83 minutes, both unassisted.
After her strong performance last game, freshman attacking mid Marijka Lynch-Pastoor added five goals in today's match. Rylee Horn recorded two goals, while Brianna Gonzalez, Brooke Strickland, and Gabriella Diez scored one goal each. Freshman Catherine Swick added two assists while Rylee Horn, Marijka Lynch-Pastoor, Brianna Gonzalez, Brooke Strickland, Mary Gregory added one assist respectfully. Junior Goalkeeper Carley Klott saw 90 minutes of action while recording two saves.
Women's soccer will be back in action when they host Goshen College Wednesday, September 13 at 5:00pm.
