Notre Dame, IN. Women's soccer hosted Goshen College this evening at Ganger Field. The Saints scored within the first four minutes of action to take the early 1-0 lead, but the Maple Leafs were able to respond with two goals late in the first half. Those goals held for the remainder of the game, as Holy Cross came up short falling by a score of 2-1. With the loss, women's soccer is 2-3 on the year.
Holy Cross struck first, when Brooke Strickland had a beautiful cross to fellow freshman Marijka Lynch-Pastoor, who was able to find the back of the net for her 11th goal of the season. The Maple Leafs were able to respond with goals of their own, coming in the 18 and 42 minute marks, which brought us to a score of 2-1 entering half time.
In the second half, the defenses tightened on both sides as the two teams struggled to gather any momentum in their offensive attacks.
Holy Cross is back in action when they host the University of Cincinnati-Clermont, Sunday September 17 for a 2:00pm kickoff.
