The men and women Saints soccer teams were busy this weekend with a packed schedule. The men kicked off the weekend on Friday with a match-up against Division III opponent DePauw University.
Last year, these two teams faced off with DePauw beating the Saints 7-0. Friday night began with the Saints looking to avenge the loss from last year. The first half ended with a scoreless tie. In the 54th minute, DePauw was finally able to break down the Saints' defense as Mike Harris put one past goalkeeper Damian Marciniak. Five minutes later, Brad Kean of DePauw scored on the Saints. Despite a valiant effort, the Saints fell to 0-2 on the year, and headed to Wabash College for a Saturday matinee. "It was an overall good team effort," said Head Coach Thiago Pinto. "We will look to regroup and focus on our next game with Wabash." Marciniak once again had a great game in goal with ten saves on sixteen shots.
With the lingering effects of traveling and playing a second game in less than 24 hours, the Saints had a tall task ahead of them as they prepared for Wabash College. The Saints were once again out-shot, as the defense found it hard to stop the Wabash attack. The Saints were out- shot 22- 3, and 8-2 on goal. "Overall we played well this weekend against two very tough opponents," said Coach Pinto. "We need to work on building our attack and making fewer mistakes on our half of the field."
