Arlington Heights, IL. The Holy Cross College men's soccer team traveled to Robert Morris University for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference match. The Saints battled tough, but came up short in the double overtime thriller by a score of 1-2. With the loss, men's soccer stands at 4-5-2 overall, and 0-3-2 in CCAC play.
Men's soccer came out on the attack early, striking four shots all within the first three minutes of action. The Eagles' defense however, was able to withstand the Saints' numerous offensive attacks, and after 45 minutes of action we entered halftime tied, 0-0.
In the 64th minute, Ilja Golubevs lined up for a free kick at the 20-yard mark and was able to find the back of the net, to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. The Eagles however, were able to score a goal of their own, coming in the 68th minute.
In the first overtime, senior Alassane Diop had two great shots on goal, but the Eagles' goalkeeper was able to come away with the saves, and after 100 minutes of action, we were still tied 1-1.
Entering the second overtime, the Eagles took possession on the ball and came away with a game winning goal in the 101st minute.
Men's soccer will continue their CCAC play when they travel to Judson University this Saturday, October 7 in a 3:30 kickoff.
