Elgin, IN. Holy Cross College men's soccer played at Judson University this afternoon in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference match. The Saints played in their fourth consecutive double overtime game, but came up short falling 1-2. With the loss, men's soccer stands at 4-6-2 overall, and 0-4-2 in CCAC play.
Halfway through the first half, Ilja Golubevs lined up for a free kick just outside the box and was able to find the back of the net past the goalie's outstretched arms. That goal remained, and we entered halftime up 1-0.
Holy Cross was able to come away with some great saves in the second half, after the halftime seemed to motivate the Eagles on the offensive end. Despite the great defense, in the 86th minute the Eagles were able to score a goal to tie the match up 1-1.
The Saints' defense came up strong in the first overtime, as they were able to save two shots on goal by the Eagles. However early in the second overtime, the Eagles were able to come away with a game winning goal.
Ilja Golubevs led the way with one goal and four shots. Freshman Michael Lynch added three shots, while Nate Mendez and Cayetano Donoso each recorded one shot. Junior Noah Kemp got the start in goal and had 11 saves in 114 minutes.
The Saints will be back in action when they host Roosevelt University Saturday October 14.
