(Notre Dame, IN) The Holy Cross women's basketball team ended their 6 game losing streak at home Monday night over Rochester College (MI).
Holy Cross rallied behind freshman guard Alandrea Nailon's (South Bend, IN) 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Despite controlling much of the tempo in the first half the Saints trailed by two. The Warriors used a 9 - 0 run over the last 1:44 to gain a 34 - 32 lead at the break.
The Saints opened the second half with an 8 - 0 run to regain the lead that they never relinquished. Rochester pulled within 5 points midway through the half, but the Saints were relentless on the defensive side of the ball. The Warriors shot under 30% from the field and were held to just 4 - 31 shooting from behind the arc. Jessica Crook led Rochester with 16 points and 6 rebounds.
Tanesha Vanardo (Markham, IL) had a team high 7 steals on the night. Jalisa Edwards (Chicago, IL) recorded 6 of the team's 19 total steals. Freshman center Baysia Cox (Niles, MI) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds in 37 minutes of action.
The Saints will be back in action Saturday, January 16th, at 1pm against Purdue University Calumet. The Saints lost to the Peregrines 87 - 79 on November 28th.
