(Hammond, IN) The Holy Cross women's basketball team found themselves in an early hole Saturday afternoon against Purdue-Calumet University.
The Peregrines opened up a 22 - 5 lead that the young Saints could not overcome. The Saints trailed 44 - 20 at the break. The Peregrines led by as many as 38 with 4 minutes remaining in the contest. Holy Cross shot 32% from the field and only 18.8% on 6 - 32 shooting from behind the 3 - point line. Calumet shot nearly 38% from the field on the day.
Leading all scorers was freshman center Baysia Cox (Niles, MI) with 17 points. Tanesha Varnardo (Markham, IL) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. Leading Purdue-Calumet was Alex Starr with 15 points.
Next for the Saints is cross-town and conference rival IU-South Bend on Tuesday, January 19th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm at the Student Activities Center located on the IU-South Bend campus.
