(South Bend, IN) The Holy Cross women's basketball team made the 5 mile trek to IU-South Bend Tuesday evening for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match-up.
The Titans (14-4, 3-0) controlled most of the game against a young Saints team that has a shortened bench due to injuries. Junior Tanesha Vanardo left the game with an ankle injury, but was able to return in the second half.
IUSB was able to pull away from the Saints midway through the first half to take a 17 point lead. Holy Cross battled back to pull within 9 points with 7 minutes left in the half. However, IUSB closed out the half with a 14-4 run. The Saints only shot 27% from the field while the Titans shot 55%. IUSB took a 42-23 lead into halftime. Despite shooting 50% in the second half Holy Cross (4-19, 0-6) could not overcome their halftime deficit. IUSB handed the Saints their second straight loss 73-49.
Katie Hacker led the Titans with 24 points including 7-11 shooting from the 3-point line. Junior Jalisa Edwards (Chicago, IL) led the Saints with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Freshman Baysia Cox chipped in 10 points and 5 rebounds.
Holy Cross will be back in action in a non-conference match-up against IU-Northwest on January 26th in Gary, Ind.
