(Notre Dame, IN) The Saints had 4 players in double figures, but an injury to sophomore guard J.T. Breveard (South Bend, IN) early in the second half knocked him out for the remainder of the game against visiting Trinity Christian.
The first half remained close with neither team pulling away. The largest lead was 5 after Trinity Christian's Matt Buren hit 2 of his 18 points at the 2:05 mark. The Saints trailed 39 - 35 at the break despite holding the Trolls to 38.2% shooting including 1-11 from behind the 3-point line. Holy Cross shot 45.7%.
Trailing by 9 and just three minutes into the second half J.T. Breveard landed awkwardly on his ankle after driving into the lane. Breveard left the game and never returned. Holy Cross answered with an 11 - 1 run to regain the lead on a pair of Brad Kendall (Granger, IN) free-throws with 13:16 remaining in the game. With the momentum on their side the Saints took a 4 point lead midway through the half. However, Trinity Christian answered with an 11 - 0 run to recapture the lead.
The Saints managed to pull within 4 with 1:14 remaining in the game, but the Trolls hit their free-throws down the stretch and took home a 76 - 69 victory. Will Bruinsma of Trinity led all scorers with 25 points. Leading the Saints was Andrew Tullis (Orland, IN) with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Taylor Williams (South Bend, IN) chipped in 12. Brad Kendall and J.T. Breveard each scored 11.
The Saints will be back in action Saturday, January 30th, against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Olivet Nazarene University. J.T. Breveard's status is unknown for this Saturday.
