Men's Soccer - Fri, Sep. 5, 2008
The Holy Cross men were in action yesterday against the University of Saint Francis. The Saints were looking for their first win of the season against the undefeated Cougars.
The conditions were a detriment to both teams as it rained for most of the game. The scoring started off in the 16th minute for USF as Ryne Standish put one in the back of the net off a direct kick in front of the Saints' goal. USF was able to add another goal late in the second half when Justin Darvish broke free from the Saints' defense. "Despite the record the season has been a success," says Head Coach Thiago Pinto. "The team has grown together and they have built a positive environment on and off the field."
Ryan Crawford of USF was able to quickly add another goal in the 50th minute to make the score 3-0. In the 68th minute, Romulo Nobrega put the Saints on the scoreboard to make it 3-1. The Saints shut down the Cougars' offense and pressured their defense late in the game, but were unable to add any more goals and the game ended 3-1 in favor of USF. The Saints will take on the Bethel reserves at Bethel College on September 11th .
