Saints Split Season Finale with Hoosiers

(South Bend, IN) The Saints wrapped up their season with the Hoosiers of Indiana this past weekend. After an 8-4 victory on Friday night the Saints fell 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday the Saints fell behind early on a Nick Cybulski goal at 11:08. Freshman Mitch MacLeod scored for the Saints at the 5:47 mark to tie the game. Three minutes later junior forward Jamie O'Conner netted a power play goal that was assisted by Levi Burkins to put the Saints up one. With 22 seconds remaining in the period senior Levi Burkins put the Saints up two. He was assisted by Mitch MacLeod.
The second period was dominated by the Saints. Sean Root scored with 10:42 left in the second period and was assisted by Jamie O'Conner. With 4:58 left in the period Root added his second goal of the game on a power play. Forty seconds later Ryan Cybulski recorded his second goal for the Hoosiers to pull within two goals. However, Mitch MacLeod added extended the Saints lead to three with 1:07 remaining in the period.
The Hoosiers started the third period scoring at the 16:29 mark. Ryan Bell scored for the Hoosiers and was assisted by Nick Dobrez. Four minutes later Jamie O'Conner scored his second goal for the game and was assisted by Mitch MacLeod to once again put the Saints up by three. Nick Dobrez scored his second goal of the game with 8:02 remaining to keep the game manageable, but Dan Merkle sealed the victory for the Saints scoring with 1:39 remaining. Andrew Ebright led the Saints in goal with 41 saves.
Saturday night was Senior Night for Levi Burkins, and Richie Rectenwal. Both seniors were honored for their commitment to Holy Cross and the hockey program.
The Saints fell behind to start the game when Nick Cybulski scored with 9:14 remaining in the first for the Hoosiers. He was assisted by Bill Eckhart and Dillon Reid.
The Saints finally got on the board after forward Mitch MacLeod scored his third goal of the weekend with 14:10 remaining in the second. Three minutes later Dillon Reid scored a shorthanded goal for the Hoosiers giving them the lead back. Reid's goal was assisted by Nick Cybulski. With 4:05 remaining in the period Levi Burkins scored to tie the game. The goal was assisted by Ty Robbins and Steve Bridgeman.With 3:04 remaining in the game and the game tied Nick Cybulski scored for the Hoosiers to give them the lead and eventually the win. The goal was assisted by Bill Eckhart.
The split this weekend gives the Saints a 10-17 record for the season. Jamie O'Conner led the team with 21 goals. Mitch MacLeod led the team with 42 points. Andrew Ebright led the Saints in goal with an 89% save ratio and a 4.06 GAA.
