The Holy Cross women's soccer team traveled to Upland, Indiana to take on the Taylor University Trojans. The Saints entered the game looking for their first win of the season after a 0-3 start.
The Trojans came in riding a two game winning streak and looking for their third before entering conference play.
The game started with four quick goals within the first ten minutes of the game, including a 10th minute goal off a corner kick by Melanie Hall. The Saints were able to settle down and keep the score at 4-0 at the end of the first half.
The second half would prove to be a test for the Saints as they tried to come back. With only two substitutes, they fought hard but the Taylor offense was too much in the end and would add three more goals before the end of the game. Ashley Lennon, Saints' goalkeeper, had a great game regardless of the final score, saving 13 of the 20 shots on goal. "Despite the loss we played hard," said Head Coach Peter Holland, "we will regroup and play Andrews in a week." The Saints will travel to Andrews University on September 24th for a 6 p.m. game.
*Please note that the September 20th game vs. Grace Bible has been cancelled.
