(Lake Forest, Ill.) The lacrosse team took to the field Sunday afternoon for the first time in a month. Ranked #1 according to laxpower.com, the Saints took on #7 Northern Illinois University and Lake Forest College in Great Lakes Lacrosse League action.
The Saints first met up with the Huskies of Northern Illinois. Holy Cross jumped out to a 5 - 0 lead behind great play from attackmen Pat Pirozzi and Brandt Riedman. The Huskies bounced back with two quick goals in the third to pull within 3. However, the Saints answered with two goals of their own in the fourth to take the game 7 - 2.
Leading the Saints was senior midfielder Alex Brescia with three goals. The Saints won all 12 face-offs and managed 20 shots. Goalkeeper Fritz Schoenhut recorded 5 saves.
In game two, the Saints took on the Foresters of Lake Forest College. Holy Cross managed 9 goals on 15 shots in a dominating 9 - 1 victory.
The 9 goals were spread out between six players. Reed Looney recorded three and senior attackman Levi Burkins scored his first goal of the season after missing the first four games with an injury.
Once again the Saints controlled face-offs winning 9-of-12 in the game. Schoenhut picked up his second victory of the day making 7 saves including three in the fourth quarter.
The Saints (7-0) will be back in action April 10th and 11th to take on Western Illinois University, University of Chicago, Southern Illinois University, and Benedictine University. The April 10th games will take place at Northern Illinois University and the April 11th games will be at Benedictine University.
