(Notre Dame, Ind.) The Holy Cross men's hockey program welcomed eight new members to the class of 2010. Tommy Lyons (Valparaiso, Ind.), Clairmont Ruff (Santa Ana, Cal.), Jon O' Brien (Greenwood, Ind.), Kevin Leger (Middlebury, Conn.), Chris Rodriguez (Valparaiso, Ind.), Brendon Gendel (South Bend, Ind.), Derek Dobbins (Kokomo, Ind), and Drew Brodbeck (Stillwater, Minn.) all signed letters of intent to join the Saints this fall.
Originally from Buffalo, New York, Tommy Lyons moved to Valparaiso, Ind. where he earned the Viking Award in both football and hockey. Also hailing from Valparaiso, Ind. is Chris Rodriguez. At Valparaiso High School, Chris earned the Ed Krugh Award and was selected to the 2nd team All - Conference.
Jon O'Brien who was a three year varsity hockey and baseball player at Roncalli High School in Indianapolis will play forward for the Saints this fall. The son of Mike and Julie O'Brien will study communications while attending Holy Cross. Derek Dobbins of Kokomo High School joins the Saints and former teammate Blair Knafel. Dobbins will play forward for the Saints while working towards a bachelors in psychology. 


Drew Brodbeck, Kevin Leger, and Clairmont Ruff each come to Holy Cross from different parts of the United States. Brodbeck the son of Tom and Teri will play forward for the Saints. Legar, a multi sport athlete at Holy Cross High School in Middlebury, Conn. was part of the 2002 - 2003 DI State Championship. Legar was also a varsity football and baseball player. Ruff a forward from Mater Dei High School in California, was also a captain in football and a member of the National Honor Society.
Last but not least is Brendon Gendel of South Bend, Ind. Brendon joins older brother Brad and the Saints next fall. At Marian High School, Brendon earned multiple awards including the Hobey Baker Award, Versatile Player, and MVP rookie of the year. He was also a team captain and named to the All-State team.
"These signings were great and it puts us exactly where we want to be," said Head Coach Phil O'Connell. "We have a solid group of incoming athletes that we signed on Saturday to compliment the 12 returning players from last year. The entire team and coaching staff is very excited to get the 2010 - 11 year started."
